2025-01-09skbuff: introduce skb_expand_head()Vasily Averin
[ Upstream commit f1260ff15a71b8fc122b2c9abd8a7abffb6e0168 ] Like skb_realloc_headroom(), new helper increases headroom of specified skb. Unlike skb_realloc_headroom(), it does not allocate a new skb if possible; copies skb->sk on new skb when as needed and frees original skb in case of failures. This helps to simplify ip[6]_finish_output2() and a few other similar cases. Signed-off-by: Vasily Averin <vvs@virtuozzo.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2024-11-08inet: inet_defrag: prevent sk release while still in useFlorian Westphal
commit 18685451fc4e546fc0e718580d32df3c0e5c8272 upstream. ip_local_out() and other functions can pass skb->sk as function argument. If the skb is a fragment and reassembly happens before such function call returns, the sk must not be released. This affects skb fragments reassembled via netfilter or similar modules, e.g. openvswitch or ct_act.c, when run as part of tx pipeline. Eric Dumazet made an initial analysis of this bug. Quoting Eric: Calling ip_defrag() in output path is also implying skb_orphan(), which is buggy because output path relies on sk not disappearing. A relevant old patch about the issue was : 8282f27449bf ("inet: frag: Always orphan skbs inside ip_defrag()") [..] net/ipv4/ip_output.c depends on skb->sk being set, and probably to an inet socket, not an arbitrary one. If we orphan the packet in ipvlan, then downstream things like FQ packet scheduler will not work properly. We need to change ip_defrag() to only use skb_orphan() when really needed, ie whenever frag_list is going to be used. Eric suggested to stash sk in fragment queue and made an initial patch. However there is a problem with this: If skb is refragmented again right after, ip_do_fragment() will copy head->sk to the new fragments, and sets up destructor to sock_wfree. IOW, we have no choice but to fix up sk_wmem accouting to reflect the fully reassembled skb, else wmem will underflow. This change moves the orphan down into the core, to last possible moment. As ip_defrag_offset is aliased with sk_buff->sk member, we must move the offset into the FRAG_CB, else skb->sk gets clobbered. This allows to delay the orphaning long enough to learn if the skb has to be queued or if the skb is completing the reasm queue. In the former case, things work as before, skb is orphaned. This is safe because skb gets queued/stolen and won't continue past reasm engine. In the latter case, we will steal the skb->sk reference, reattach it to the head skb, and fix up wmem accouting when inet_frag inflates truesize. 2024-05-17xfrm: Preserve vlan tags for transport mode software GROPaul Davey
[ Upstream commit 58fbfecab965014b6e3cc956a76b4a96265a1add ] The software GRO path for esp transport mode uses skb_mac_header_rebuild prior to re-injecting the packet via the xfrm_napi_dev. This only copies skb->mac_len bytes of header which may not be sufficient if the packet contains 802.1Q tags or other VLAN tags. Worse copying only the initial header will leave a packet marked as being VLAN tagged but without the corresponding tag leading to mangling when it is later untagged. The VLAN tags are important when receiving the decrypted esp transport mode packet after GRO processing to ensure it is received on the correct interface. Therefore record the full mac header length in xfrm*_transport_input for later use in corresponding xfrm*_transport_finish to copy the entire mac header when rebuilding the mac header for GRO. The skb->data pointer is left pointing skb->mac_header bytes after the start of the mac header as is expected by the network stack and network and transport header offsets reset to this location. 2022-10-26io_uring/af_unix: defer registered files gc to io_uring releasePavel Begunkov
[ upstream commit 0091bfc81741b8d3aeb3b7ab8636f911b2de6e80 ] Instead of putting io_uring's registered files in unix_gc() we want it to be done by io_uring itself. 2022-09-05bpf: Don't redirect packets with invalid pkt_lenZhengchao Shao
commit fd1894224407c484f652ad456e1ce423e89bb3eb upstream. Syzbot found an issue [1]: fq_codel_drop() try to drop a flow whitout any skbs, that is, the flow->head is null. The root cause, as the [2] says, is because that bpf_prog_test_run_skb() run a bpf prog which redirects empty skbs. So we should determine whether the length of the packet modified by bpf prog or others like bpf_prog_test is valid before forwarding it directly. 2021-01-23net: skbuff: disambiguate argument and member for skb_list_walk_safe helperJason A. Donenfeld

2021-01-23net: introduce skb_list_walk_safe for skb segment walkingJason A. Donenfeld
commit dcfea72e79b0aa7a057c8f6024169d86a1bbc84b upstream. As part of the continual effort to remove direct usage of skb->next and skb->prev, this patch adds a helper for iterating through the singly-linked variant of skb lists, which are used for lists of GSO packet. The name "skb_list_..." has been chosen to match the existing function, "kfree_skb_list, which also operates on these singly-linked lists, and the "..._walk_safe" part is the same idiom as elsewhere in the kernel. This patch removes the helper from wireguard and puts it into linux/skbuff.h, while making it a bit more robust for general usage. In particular, parenthesis are added around the macro argument usage, and it now accounts for trying to iterate through an already-null skb pointer, which will simply run the iteration zero times. This latter enhancement means it can be used to replace both do { ... } while and while (...) open-coded idioms. This should take care of these three possible usages, which match all current methods of iterations. skb_list_walk_safe(segs, skb, next) { ... } skb_list_walk_safe(skb, skb, next) { ... } skb_list_walk_safe(segs, skb, segs) { ... } Gcc appears to generate efficient code for each of these. 2019-11-22udp: drop skb extensions before marking skb statelessFlorian Westphal
Once udp stack has set the UDP_SKB_IS_STATELESS flag, later skb free assumes all skb head state has been dropped already. This will leak the extension memory in case the skb has extensions other than the ipsec secpath, e.g. bridge nf data. To fix this, set the UDP_SKB_IS_STATELESS flag only if we don't have extensions or if the extension space can be free'd. 2019-10-28net: add skb_queue_empty_lockless()Eric Dumazet
Some paths call skb_queue_empty() without holding the queue lock. We must use a barrier in order to not let the compiler do strange things, and avoid KCSAN splats. Adding a barrier in skb_queue_empty() might be overkill, I prefer adding a new helper to clearly identify points where the callers might be lockless. This might help us finding real bugs. The corresponding WRITE_ONCE() should add zero cost for current compilers. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2019-10-23net/flow_dissector: switch to siphashEric Dumazet
UDP IPv6 packets auto flowlabels are using a 32bit secret (static u32 hashrnd in net/core/flow_dissector.c) and apply jhash() over fields known by the receivers. Attackers can easily infer the 32bit secret and use this information to identify a device and/or user, since this 32bit secret is only set at boot time. Really, using jhash() to generate cookies sent on the wire is a serious security concern. Trying to change the rol32(hash, 16) in ip6_make_flowlabel() would be a dead end. Trying to periodically change the secret (like in sch_sfq.c) could change paths taken in the network for long lived flows. Let's switch to siphash, as we did in commit df453700e8d8 ("inet: switch IP ID generator to siphash") Using a cryptographically strong pseudo random function will solve this privacy issue and more generally remove other weak points in the stack. Packet schedulers using skb_get_hash_perturb() benefit from this change. 2019-10-15net/sched: fix corrupted L2 header with MPLS 'push' and 'pop' actionsDavide Caratti
the following script: # tc qdisc add dev eth0 clsact # tc filter add dev eth0 egress protocol ip matchall \ > action mpls push protocol mpls_uc label 0x355aa bos 1 causes corruption of all IP packets transmitted by eth0. On TC egress, we can't rely on the value of skb->mac_len, because it's 0 and a MPLS 'push' operation will result in an overwrite of the first 4 octets in the packet L2 header (e.g. the Destination Address if eth0 is an Ethernet); the same error pattern is present also in the MPLS 'pop' operation. Fix this error in act_mpls data plane, computing 'mac_len' as the difference between the network header and the mac header (when not at TC ingress), and use it in MPLS 'push'/'pop' core functions. v2: unbreak 'make htmldocs' because of missing documentation of 'mac_len' in skb_mpls_pop(), reported by kbuild test robot CC: Lorenzo Bianconi <lorenzo@kernel.org> Fixes: 2a2ea50870ba ("net: sched: add mpls manipulation actions to TC") Reviewed-by: Simon Horman <simon.horman@netronome.com> Acked-by: John Hurley <john.hurley@netronome.com> Signed-off-by: Davide Caratti <dcaratti@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2019-10-01netfilter: drop bridge nf reset from nf_resetFlorian Westphal
commit 174e23810cd31 ("sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbing") made napi recycle always drop skb extensions. The additional skb_ext_del() that is performed via nf_reset on napi skb recycle is not needed anymore. Most nf_reset() calls in the stack are there so queued skb won't block 'rmmod nf_conntrack' indefinitely. This removes the skb_ext_del from nf_reset, and renames it to a more fitting nf_reset_ct(). In a few selected places, add a call to skb_ext_reset to make sure that no active extensions remain. I am submitting this for "net", because we're still early in the release cycle. The patch applies to net-next too, but I think the rename causes needless divergence between those trees. 2019-09-27sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbingFlorian Westphal
Now that we have a 3rd extension, add a new helper that drops the extension space and use it when we need to scrub an sk_buff. At this time, scrubbing clears secpath and bridge netfilter data, but retains the tc skb extension, after this patch all three get cleared. NAPI reuse/free assumes we can only have a secpath attached to skb, but it seems better to clear all extensions there as well. v2: add unlikely hint (Eric Dumazet) Fixes: 95a7233c452a ("net: openvswitch: Set OvS recirc_id from tc chain index") Signed-off-by: Florian Westphal <fw@strlen.de> Signed-off-by: David S. 2019-09-06net: openvswitch: Set OvS recirc_id from tc chain indexPaul Blakey
Offloaded OvS datapath rules are translated one to one to tc rules, for example the following simplified OvS rule: recirc_id(0),in_port(dev1),eth_type(0x0800),ct_state(-trk) actions:ct(),recirc(2) Will be translated to the following tc rule: $ tc filter add dev dev1 ingress \ prio 1 chain 0 proto ip \ flower tcp ct_state -trk \ action ct pipe \ action goto chain 2 Received packets will first travel though tc, and if they aren't stolen by it, like in the above rule, they will continue to OvS datapath. Since we already did some actions (action ct in this case) which might modify the packets, and updated action stats, we would like to continue the proccessing with the correct recirc_id in OvS (here recirc_id(2)) where we left off. To support this, introduce a new skb extension for tc, which will be used for translating tc chain to ovs recirc_id to handle these miss cases. Last tc chain index will be set by tc goto chain action and read by OvS datapath. 2019-08-08net/tls: prevent skb_orphan() from leaking TLS plain text with offloadJakub Kicinski
sk_validate_xmit_skb() and drivers depend on the sk member of struct sk_buff to identify segments requiring encryption. Any operation which removes or does not preserve the original TLS socket such as skb_orphan() or skb_clone() will cause clear text leaks. Make the TCP socket underlying an offloaded TLS connection mark all skbs as decrypted, if TLS TX is in offload mode. Then in sk_validate_xmit_skb() catch skbs which have no socket (or a socket with no validation) and decrypted flag set. Note that CONFIG_SOCK_VALIDATE_XMIT, CONFIG_TLS_DEVICE and sk->sk_validate_xmit_skb are slightly interchangeable right now, they all imply TLS offload. The new checks are guarded by CONFIG_TLS_DEVICE because that's the option guarding the sk_buff->decrypted member. Second, smaller issue with orphaning is that it breaks the guarantee that packets will be delivered to device queues in-order. All TLS offload drivers depend on that scheduling property. This means skb_orphan_partial()'s trick of preserving partial socket references will cause issues in the drivers. We need a full orphan, and as a result netem delay/throttling will cause all TLS offload skbs to be dropped. Reusing the sk_buff->decrypted flag also protects from leaking clear text when incoming, decrypted skb is redirected (e.g. by TC). See commit 0608c69c9a80 ("bpf: sk_msg, sock{map|hash} redirect through ULP") for justification why the internal flag is safe. The only location which could leak the flag in is tcp_bpf_sendmsg(), which is taken care of by clearing the previously unused bit. v2: - remove superfluous decrypted mark copy (Willem); - remove the stale doc entry (Boris); - rely entirely on EOR marking to prevent coalescing (Boris); - use an internal sendpages flag instead of marking the socket (Boris). v3 (Willem): - reorganize the can_skb_orphan_partial() condition; - fix the flag leak-in through tcp_bpf_sendmsg. This is required to debug checksum bugs that may include bytes past skb_tail_pointer(). Both call sites call this function inside a net_ratelimit() block. Limit full packet log further to a hard limit of can_dump_full (5). Based on an earlier patch by Cong Wang, see link below. 2019-06-04net/tls: fully initialize the msg wrapper skbJakub Kicinski
If strparser gets cornered into starting a new message from an sk_buff which already has frags, it will allocate a new skb to become the "wrapper" around the fragments of the message. This new skb does not inherit any metadata fields. In case of TLS offload this may lead to unnecessarily re-encrypting the message, as skb->decrypted is not set for the wrapper skb. Try to be conservative and copy all fields of old skb strparser's user may reasonably need. 2019-05-16net: test nouarg before dereferencing zerocopy pointersWillem de Bruijn
Zerocopy skbs without completion notification were added for packet sockets with PACKET_TX_RING user buffers. Those signal completion through the TP_STATUS_USER bit in the ring. Zerocopy annotation was added only to avoid premature notification after clone or orphan, by triggering a copy on these paths for these packets. The mechanism had to define a special "no-uarg" mode because packet sockets already use skb_uarg(skb) == skb_shinfo(skb)->destructor_arg for a different pointer. Before deferencing skb_uarg(skb), verify that it is a real pointer.
