2018-11-21mtd: docg3: don't set conflicting BCH_CONST_PARAMS optionArnd Bergmann
commit be2e1c9dcf76886a83fb1c433a316e26d4ca2550 upstream. I noticed during the creation of another bugfix that the BCH_CONST_PARAMS option that is set by DOCG3 breaks setting variable parameters for any other users of the BCH library code. The only other user we have today is the MTD_NAND software BCH implementation (most flash controllers use hardware BCH these days and are not affected). I considered removing BCH_CONST_PARAMS entirely because of the inherent conflict, but according to the description in lib/bch.c there is a significant performance benefit in keeping it. To avoid the immediate problem of the conflict between MTD_NAND_BCH and DOCG3, this only sets the constant parameters if MTD_NAND_BCH is disabled, which should fix the problem for all cases that are affected. This should also work for all stable kernels. Note that there is only one machine that actually seems to use the DOCG3 driver (arch/arm/mach-pxa/mioa701.c), so most users should have the driver disabled, but it almost certainly shows up if we wanted to test random kernels on machines that use software BCH in MTD. [ Upstream commit fbed20280d912449cfb40c382cb55e3d11502587 ] There is a potential execution path in which function of_find_compatible_node() returns NULL. In such a case, we end up having a NULL pointer dereference when accessing pointer *nfc_np* in function of_clk_get(). 2018-11-13mtd: rawnand: denali: set SPARE_AREA_SKIP_BYTES register to 8 if unsetMasahiro Yamada
[ Upstream commit 0d55c668b218a1db68b5044bce4de74e1bd0f0c8 ] NAND devices need additional data area (OOB) for error correction, but it is also used for Bad Block Marker (BBM). In many cases, the first byte in OOB is used for BBM, but the location actually depends on chip vendors. The NAND controller should preserve the precious BBM to keep track of bad blocks. In Denali IP, the SPARE_AREA_SKIP_BYTES register is used to specify the number of bytes to skip from the start of OOB. The ECC engine will automatically skip the specified number of bytes when it gets access to OOB area. The same value for SPARE_AREA_SKIP_BYTES should be used between firmware and the operating system if you intend to use the NAND device across the control hand-off. In fact, the current denali.c code expects firmware to have already set the SPARE_AREA_SKIP_BYTES register, then reads the value out. If no firmware (or bootloader) has initialized the controller, the register value is zero, which is the default after power-on-reset. In other words, the Linux driver cannot initialize the controller by itself. Some possible solutions are: [1] Add a DT property to specify the skipped bytes in OOB [2] Associate the preferred value with compatible [3] Hard-code the default value in the driver My first attempt was [1], but in the review process, [3] was suggested as a counter-implementation. (https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/patch/983055/) The default value 8 was chosen to match to the boot ROM of the UniPhier platform. The preferred value may vary by platform. If so, please trade up to a different solution. commit 000412276370a9bcfec73b3752ceefd9a927f1db upstream. fsl_qspi_get_seqid() may return -EINVAL, but fsl_qspi_init_ahb_read() doesn't check for error codes with the result that -EINVAL could find itself signalled over the bus. In conjunction with the LS1046A SoC's A-009283 errata ("Illegal accesses to SPI flash memory can result in a system hang") this illegal access to SPI flash memory results in a system hang if userspace attempts reading later on. 2018-11-13mtd: rawnand: marvell: fix the IRQ handler complete() conditionMiquel Raynal
commit 53c83b59759c1ee213f5ffa194909daee8902a28 upstream. With the current implementation, the complete() in the IRQ handler is supposed to be called only if the register status has one or the other RDY bit set. Other events might trigger an interrupt as well if enabled, but should not end-up with a complete() call. For this purpose, the code was checking if the other bits were set, in this case complete() was not called. This is wrong as two events might happen in a very tight time-frame and if the NDSR status read reports two bits set (eg. RDY(0) and RDDREQ) at the same time, complete() was not called. This logic would lead to timeouts in marvell_nfc_wait_op() and has been observed on PXA boards (NFCv1) in the Hamming write path. 2018-09-26mtdchar: fix overflows in adjustment of `count`Jann Horn
[ Upstream commit 6c6bc9ea84d0008024606bf5ba10519e20d851bf ] The first checks in mtdchar_read() and mtdchar_write() attempt to limit `count` such that `*ppos + count <= mtd->size`. However, they ignore the possibility of `*ppos > mtd->size`, allowing the calculation of `count` to wrap around. `mtdchar_lseek()` prevents seeking beyond mtd->size, but the pread/pwrite syscalls bypass this. I haven't found any codepath on which this actually causes dangerous behavior, but it seems like a sensible change anyway. 2018-09-05mtd: rawnand: qcom: wait for desc completion in all BAM channelsAbhishek Sahu
commit 6f20070d51a20e489ef117603210264c6bcde8a5 upstream. The BAM has 3 channels - tx, rx and command. command channel is used for register read/writes, tx channel for data writes and rx channel for data reads. Currently, the driver assumes the transfer completion once it gets all the command descriptors completed. Sometimes, there is race condition between data channel (tx/rx) and command channel completion. In these cases, the data present in buffer is not valid during small window between command descriptor completion and data descriptor completion. This patch generates NAND transfer completion when both (Data and Command) DMA channels have completed all its DMA descriptors. It assigns completion callback in last DMA descriptors of that channel and wait for completion. 2018-09-05mtd: rawnand: marvell: add suspend and resume hooksDaniel Mack
commit bd9c3f9b3c00da322b5e784e820533f1598f690a upstream. This patch restores the suspend and resume hooks that the old driver used to have. Apart from stopping and starting the clocks, the resume callback also nullifies the selected_chip pointer, so the next command that is issued will re-select the chip and thereby restore the timing registers. Factor out some code from marvell_nfc_init() into a new function marvell_nfc_reset() and also call it at resume time to reset some registers that don't retain their contents during low-power mode. Positive return value from read_oob() is making false BAD blocks. For some of the NAND controllers, OOB bytes will be protected with ECC and read_oob() will return number of bitflips. 2018-06-19mtd: rawnand: mxc: set spare area size register explicitlyMartin Kaiser
The v21 version of the NAND flash controller contains a Spare Area Size Register (SPAS) at offset 0x10. Its setting defaults to the maximum spare area size of 218 bytes. The size that is set in this register is used by the controller when it calculates the ECC bytes internally in hardware. Usually, this register is updated from settings in the IIM fuses when the system is booting from NAND flash. For other boot media, however, the SPAS register remains at the default setting, which may not work for the particular flash chip on the board. The same goes for flash chips whose configuration cannot be set in the IIM fuses (e.g. chips with 2k sector size and 128 bytes spare area size can't be configured in the IIM fuses on imx25 systems). Set the SPAS register explicitly during the preset operation. Derive the register value from mtd->oobsize that was detected during probe by decoding the flash chip's ID bytes. While at it, rename the define for the spare area register's offset to NFC_V21_RSLTSPARE_AREA. The register at offset 0x10 on v1 controllers is different from the register on v21 controllers. 2018-06-12treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array()Kees Cook
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kmalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kmalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; 2018-06-07ubi: fastmap: Correctly handle interrupted erasures in EBARichard Weinberger
Fastmap cannot track the LEB unmap operation, therefore it can happen that after an interrupted erasure the mapping still looks good from Fastmap's point of view, while reading from the PEB will cause an ECC error and confuses the upper layer. Instead of teaching users of UBI how to deal with that, we read back the VID header and check for errors. If the PEB is empty or shows ECC errors we fixup the mapping and schedule the PEB for erasure. Ben Hutchings pointed out that 29b7a6fa1ec0 ("ubi: fastmap: Don't flush fastmap work on detach") does not really fix the problem, it just reduces the risk to hit the race window where fastmap work races against free()'ing ubi->volumes[]. The correct approach is making sure that no more fastmap work is in progress before we free ubi data structures. So we cancel fastmap work right after the ubi background thread is stopped. By setting ubi->thread_enabled to zero we make sure that no further work tries to wake the thread. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/spi Pull spi updates from Mark Brown: "Quite a busy release for SPI, mainly as a result of Boris Brezillon's work on improving the integration with MTD for accelerated SPI flash controllers. He's added a new spi_mem interface which works a lot better with general hardware and converted the users over to it, as a result of this work we've got some MTD changes in here as well. Other highlights include: - Lots of spring cleaning for the s3c64xx driver. - Removal of the bcm53xx, the hardware is also supported by the mspi driver but SoC naming had caused people to miss the duplication. - Conversion of the pxa2xx driver to use the standard message processing loop rather than open coding. - A bunch of improvements to the runtime PM of the OMAP McSPI driver" * tag 'spi-v4.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/spi: (47 commits) spi: Fix typo on SPI_MEM help text spi: sh-msiof: Fix setting SIRMDR1.SYNCAC to match SITMDR1.SYNCAC mtd: devices: m25p80: Use spi_mem_set_drvdata() instead of spi_set_drvdata() spi: omap2-mcspi: Remove unnecessary pm_runtime_force_suspend() spi: Add missing pm_runtime_put_noidle() after failed get spi: ti-qspi: Make sure res_mmap != NULL before dereferencing it spi: spi-s3c64xx: Fix system resume support spi: bcm-qspi: Fix build failure caused by spi_flash_read() API removal spi: Get rid of the spi_flash_read() API mtd: spi-nor: Use the spi_mem_xx() API spi: ti-qspi: Implement the spi_mem interface spi: bcm-qspi: Implement the spi_mem interface spi: Make support for regular transfers optional when ->mem_ops != NULL spi: Extend the core to ease integration of SPI memory controllers spi: remove forgotten CONFIG_SPI_BCM53XX spi: remove the older/duplicated bcm53xx driver spi: pxa2xx: check clk_prepare_enable() return value spi: lpspi: Switch to SPDX identifier spi: mxs: Switch to SPDX identifier spi: imx: Switch to SPDX identifier ...
