2024-08-19MIPS: SMP-CPS: Fix address for GCR_ACCESS register for CM3 and laterGregory CLEMENT
[ Upstream commit a263e5f309f32301e1f3ad113293f4e68a82a646 ] When the CM block migrated from CM2.5 to CM3.0, the address offset for the Global CSR Access Privilege register was modified. We saw this in the "MIPS64 I6500 Multiprocessing System Programmer's Guide," it is stated that "the Global CSR Access Privilege register is located at offset 0x0120" in section 5.4. It is at least the same for I6400. This fix allows to use the VP cores in SMP mode if the reset values were modified by the bootloader. Based on the work of Vladimir Kondratiev <vladimir.kondratiev@mobileye.com> and the feedback from Jiaxun Yang <jiaxun.yang@flygoat.com>. 2024-02-23mips: Call lose_fpu(0) before initializing fcr31 in mips_set_personality_nanXi Ruoyao
commit 59be5c35850171e307ca5d3d703ee9ff4096b948 upstream. If we still own the FPU after initializing fcr31, when we are preempted the dirty value in the FPU will be read out and stored into fcr31, clobbering our setting. This can cause an improper floating-point environment after execve(). For example: zsh% cat measure.c #include <fenv.h> int main() { return fetestexcept(FE_INEXACT); } zsh% cc measure.c -o measure -lm zsh% echo $((1.0/3)) # raising FE_INEXACT 0.33333333333333331 zsh% while ./measure; do ; done (stopped in seconds) Call lose_fpu(0) before setting fcr31 to prevent this. [ Upstream commit 4897a898a216058dec55e5e5902534e6e224fcdf ] PAGE_OFFSET is technically a virtual address so when checking the value of initrd_start against it we should make sure that it has been sanitised from the values passed by the bootloader. [ Upstream commit 91dc288f4edf0d768e46c2c6d33e0ab703403459 ] When neither LANTIQ nor MIPS_MALTA is set, 'physical_memsize' is not declared. This causes the build to fail with: mips-linux-ld: arch/mips/kernel/vpe-mt.o: in function `vpe_run': arch/mips/kernel/vpe-mt.c:(.text.vpe_run+0x280): undefined reference to `physical_memsize' LANTIQ is not using 'physical_memsize' and MIPS_MALTA's use of it is self-contained in mti-malta/malta-dtshim.c. 2023-02-06exit: Add and use make_task_dead.Eric W. Biederman
commit 0e25498f8cd43c1b5aa327f373dd094e9a006da7 upstream. There are two big uses of do_exit. The first is it's design use to be the guts of the exit(2) system call. The second use is to terminate a task after something catastrophic has happened like a NULL pointer in kernel code. Add a function make_task_dead that is initialy exactly the same as do_exit to cover the cases where do_exit is called to handle catastrophic failure. In time this can probably be reduced to just a light wrapper around do_task_dead. For now keep it exactly the same so that there will be no behavioral differences introducing this new concept. Replace all of the uses of do_exit that use it for catastraphic task cleanup with make_task_dead to make it clear what the code is doing. As part of this rename rewind_stack_do_exit rewind_stack_and_make_dead. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. 2022-05-12MIPS: Fix CP0 counter erratum detection for R4k CPUsMaciej W. Rozycki
commit f0a6c68f69981214cb7858738dd2bc81475111f7 upstream. Fix the discrepancy between the two places we check for the CP0 counter erratum in along with the incorrect comparison of the R4400 revision number against 0x30 which matches none and consistently consider all R4000 and R4400 processors affected, as documented in processor errata publications[1][2][3], following the mapping between CP0 PRId register values and processor models: PRId | Processor Model ---------+-------------------- 00000422 | R4000 Revision 2.2 00000430 | R4000 Revision 3.0 00000440 | R4400 Revision 1.0 00000450 | R4400 Revision 2.0 00000460 | R4400 Revision 3.0 No other revision of either processor has ever been spotted. Contrary to what has been stated in commit ce202cbb9e0b ("[MIPS] Assume R4000/R4400 newer than 3.0 don't have the mfc0 count bug") marking the CP0 counter as buggy does not preclude it from being used as either a clock event or a clock source device. It just cannot be used as both at a time, because in that case clock event interrupts will be occasionally lost, and the use as a clock event device takes precedence. Compare against 0x4ff in `can_use_mips_counter' so that a single machine instruction is produced. 2022-04-15MIPS: fix fortify panic when copying asm exception handlersAlexander Lobakin
[ Upstream commit d17b66417308996e7e64b270a3c7f3c1fbd4cfc8 ] With KCFLAGS="-O3", I was able to trigger a fortify-source memcpy() overflow panic on set_vi_srs_handler(). Although O3 level is not supported in the mainline, under some conditions that may've happened with any optimization settings, it's just a matter of inlining luck. The panic itself is correct, more precisely, 50/50 false-positive and not at the same time. From the one side, no real overflow happens. Exception handler defined in asm just gets copied to some reserved places in the memory. But the reason behind is that C code refers to that exception handler declares it as `char`, i.e. something of 1 byte length. It's obvious that the asm function itself is way more than 1 byte, so fortify logics thought we are going to past the symbol declared. The standard way to refer to asm symbols from C code which is not supposed to be called from C is to declare them as `extern const u8[]`. This is fully correct from any point of view, as any code itself is just a bunch of bytes (including 0 as it is for syms like _stext/_etext/etc.), and the exact size is not known at the moment of compilation. Adjust the type of the except_vec_vi_*() and related variables. Make set_handler() take `const` as a second argument to avoid cast-away warnings and give a little more room for optimization. This is critical, as sched_core_cpu_starting() calculates core-scheduling parameters only once per CPU start, and it's crucial to have all the parameters filled in at that moment (at least it uses cpu_smt_mask() which in fact is `&cpu_sibling_map[cpu]` on MIPS). A bit of debugging led me to that set_cpu_sibling_map() performing the actual map calculation, was being invocated after notify_cpu_start(), and exactly the latter function starts CPU HP callback round (sched_core_cpu_starting() is basically a CPU HP callback). While the flow is same on ARM64 (maps after the notifier, although before calling set_cpu_online()), x86 started calculating sibling maps earlier than starting the CPU HP callbacks in Linux 4.14 (see [0] for the reference). Neither me nor my brief tests couldn't find any potential caveats in calculating the maps right after performing delay calibration, but the WARN splat is now gone. 2021-11-26mips: cm: Convert to bitfield API to fix out-of-bounds accessGeert Uytterhoeven
[ Upstream commit 18b8f5b6fc53d097cadb94a93d8d6566ba88e389 ] mips_cm_error_report() extracts the cause and other cause from the error register using shifts. This works fine for the former, as it is stored in the top bits, and the shift will thus remove all non-related bits. However, the latter is stored in the bottom bits, hence thus needs masking to get rid of non-related bits. Without such masking, using it as an index into the cm2_causes[] array will lead to an out-of-bounds access, probably causing a crash. Fix this by using FIELD_GET() instead. Bite the bullet and convert all MIPS CM handling to the bitfield API, to improve readability and safety. commit 95bf9d646c3c3f95cb0be7e703b371db8da5be68 upstream. When an instruction to save or restore a register from the stack fails in _save_fp_context or _restore_fp_context return with -EFAULT. This change was made to r2300_fpu.S[1] but it looks like it got lost with the introduction of EX2[2]. This is also what the other implementation of _save_fp_context and _restore_fp_context in r4k_fpu.S does, and what is needed for the callers to be able to handle the error. Furthermore calling do_exit(SIGSEGV) from bad_stack is wrong because it does not terminate the entire process it just terminates a single thread. [ Upstream commit 4b92d4add5f6dcf21275185c997d6ecb800054cd ] DEFINE_SMP_CALL_CACHE_FUNCTION() was usefel before the CPU hotplug rework to ensure that the cache related functions are called on the upcoming CPU because the notifier itself could run on any online CPU. The hotplug state machine guarantees that the callbacks are invoked on the upcoming CPU. So there is no need to have this SMP function call obfuscation. That indirection was missed when the hotplug notifiers were converted. This also solves the problem of ARM64 init_cache_level() invoking ACPI functions which take a semaphore in that context. That's invalid as SMP function calls run with interrupts disabled. Running it just from the callback in context of the CPU hotplug thread solves this. commit 69e976831cd53f9ba304fd20305b2025ecc78eab upstream. LLVM-built Linux triggered a boot hangup with KASLR enabled. arch/mips/kernel/relocate.c:get_random_boot() uses linux_banner, which is a string constant, as a random seed, but accesses it as an array of unsigned long (in rotate_xor()). When the address of linux_banner is not aligned to sizeof(long), such access emits unaligned access exception and hangs the kernel. Use PTR_ALIGN() to align input address to sizeof(long) and also align down the input length to prevent possible access-beyond-end. 2020-07-09MIPS: Add missing EHB in mtc0 -> mfc0 sequence for DSPenHauke Mehrtens
commit fcec538ef8cca0ad0b84432235dccd9059c8e6f8 upstream. This resolves the hazard between the mtc0 in the change_c0_status() and the mfc0 in configure_exception_vector(). Without resolving this hazard configure_exception_vector() could read an old value and would restore this old value again. This would revert the changes change_c0_status() did. I checked this by printing out the read_c0_status() at the end of per_cpu_trap_init() and the ST0_MX is not set without this patch. The hazard is documented in the MIPS Architecture Reference Manual Vol. III: MIPS32/microMIPS32 Privileged Resource Architecture (MD00088), rev 6.03 table 8.1 which includes: Producer | Consumer | Hazard ----------|----------|---------------------------- mtc0 | mfc0 | any coprocessor 0 register I saw this hazard on an Atheros AR9344 rev 2 SoC with a MIPS 74Kc CPU. There the change_c0_status() function would activate the DSPen by setting ST0_MX in the c0_status register. This was reverted and then the system got a DSP exception when the DSP registers were saved in save_dsp() in the first process switch. The crash looks like this: [ 0.089999] Mount-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order: 0, 4096 bytes, linear) [ 0.097796] Mountpoint-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order: 0, 4096 bytes, linear) [ 0.107070] Kernel panic - not syncing: Unexpected DSP exception [ 0.113470] Rebooting in 1 seconds.. We saw this problem in OpenWrt only on the MIPS 74Kc based Atheros SoCs, not on the 24Kc based SoCs. We only saw it with kernel 5.4 not with kernel 4.19, in addition we had to use GCC 8.4 or 9.X, with GCC 8.3 it did not happen. In the kernel I bisected this problem to commit 9012d011660e ("compiler: allow all arches to enable CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING"), but when this was reverted it also happened after commit 172dcd935c34b ("MIPS: Always allocate exception vector for MIPSr2+"). 2020-06-22mips: Add udelay lpj numbers adjustmentSerge Semin
[ Upstream commit ed26aacfb5f71eecb20a51c4467da440cb719d66 ] Loops-per-jiffies is a special number which represents a number of noop-loop cycles per CPU-scheduler quantum - jiffies. As you understand aside from CPU-specific implementation it depends on the CPU frequency. So when a platform has the CPU frequency fixed, we have no problem and the current udelay interface will work just fine. But as soon as CPU-freq driver is enabled and the cores frequency changes, we'll end up with distorted udelay's. In order to fix this we have to accordinly adjust the per-CPU udelay_val (the same as the global loops_per_jiffy) number. This can be done in the CPU-freq transition event handler. We subscribe to that event in the MIPS arch time-inititalization method. 2020-01-27mips: avoid explicit UB in assignment of mips_io_port_baseNick Desaulniers
[ Upstream commit 12051b318bc3ce5b42d6d786191008284b067d83 ] The code in question is modifying a variable declared const through pointer manipulation. Such code is explicitly undefined behavior, and is the lone issue preventing malta_defconfig from booting when built with Clang: If an attempt is made to modify an object defined with a const-qualified type through use of an lvalue with non-const-qualified type, the behavior is undefined. LLVM is removing such assignments. A simple fix is to not declare variables const that you plan on modifying. Limiting the scope would be a better method of preventing unwanted writes to such a variable. Further, the code in question mentions "compiler bugs" without any links to bug reports, so it is difficult to know if the issue is resolved in GCC. The patch was authored in 2006, which would have been GCC 4.0.3 or 4.1.1. The minimal supported version of GCC in the Linux kernel is currently 4.6. For what its worth, there was UB before the commit in question, it just added a barrier and got lucky IRT codegen. I don't think there's any actual compiler bugs related, just runtime bugs due to UB. 2019-06-15mips: Make sure dt memory regions are validSerge Semin
[ Upstream commit 93fa5b280761a4dbb14c5330f260380385ab2b49 ] There are situations when memory regions coming from dts may be too big for the platform physical address space. This especially concerns XPA-capable systems. Bootloader may determine more than 4GB memory available and pass it to the kernel over dts memory node, while kernel is built without XPA/64BIT support. In this case the region may either simply be truncated by add_memory_region() method or by u64->phys_addr_t type casting. But in worst case the method can even drop the memory region if it exceeds PHYS_ADDR_MAX size. So lets make sure the retrieved from dts memory regions are valid, and if some of them aren't, just manually truncate them with a warning printed out. 2019-06-04jump_label: move 'asm goto' support test to KconfigMasahiro Yamada
commit e9666d10a5677a494260d60d1fa0b73cc7646eb3 upstream. Currently, CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL just means "I _want_ to use jump label". The jump label is controlled by HAVE_JUMP_LABEL, which is defined like this: #if defined(CC_HAVE_ASM_GOTO) && defined(CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL) # define HAVE_JUMP_LABEL #endif We can improve this by testing 'asm goto' support in Kconfig, then make JUMP_LABEL depend on CC_HAS_ASM_GOTO. Ugly #ifdef HAVE_JUMP_LABEL will go away, and CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL will match to the real kernel capability. 2019-05-02MIPS: scall64-o32: Fix indirect syscall number loadAurelien Jarno
commit 79b4a9cf0e2ea8203ce777c8d5cfa86c71eae86e upstream. Commit 4c21b8fd8f14 (MIPS: seccomp: Handle indirect system calls (o32)) added indirect syscall detection for O32 processes running on MIPS64, but it did not work correctly for big endian kernel/processes. The reason is that the syscall number is loaded from ARG1 using the lw instruction while this is a 64-bit value, so zero is loaded instead of the syscall number. Fix the code by using the ld instruction instead. When running a 32-bit processes on a 64 bit CPU, the values are properly sign-extended, so it ensures the value passed to syscall_trace_enter is correct. Recent systemd versions with seccomp enabled whitelist the getpid syscall for their internal processes (e.g. systemd-journald), but call it through syscall(SYS_getpid). This fix therefore allows O32 big endian systems with a 64-bit kernel to run recent systemd versions. [ Upstream commit 2b424cfc69728224fcb5fad138ea7260728e0901 ] Patch (b6c7a324df37b "MIPS: Fix get_frame_info() handling of microMIPS function size.") introduces additional function size check for microMIPS by only checking insn between ip and ip + func_size. However, func_size in get_frame_info() is always 0 if KALLSYMS is not enabled. This causes get_frame_info() to return immediately without calculating correct frame_size, which in turn causes "Can't analyze schedule() prologue" warning messages at boot time. This patch removes func_size check, and let the frame_size check run up to 128 insns for both MIPS and microMIPS. commit 94ee12b507db8b5876e31c9d6c9d84f556a4b49f upstream. __cmpxchg_small erroneously uses u8 for load comparison which can be either char or short. 2019-01-09MIPS: math-emu: Write-protect delay slot emulation pagesPaul Burton
commit adcc81f148d733b7e8e641300c5590a2cdc13bf3 upstream. Mapping the delay slot emulation page as both writeable & executable presents a security risk, in that if an exploit can write to & jump into the page then it can be used as an easy way to execute arbitrary code. Prevent this by mapping the page read-only for userland, and using access_process_vm() with the FOLL_FORCE flag to write to it from mips_dsemul(). This will likely be less efficient due to copy_to_user_page() performing cache maintenance on a whole page, rather than a single line as in the previous use of flush_cache_sigtramp(). However this delay slot emulation code ought not to be running in any performance critical paths anyway so this isn't really a problem, and we can probably do better in copy_to_user_page() anyway in future. A major advantage of this approach is that the fix is small & simple to backport to stable kernels.
