The most notable change is DEFINE_SHOW_ATTRIBUTE macro split in
seq_file.h.

Conversion rule is:

	llseek		=&gt; proc_lseek
	unlocked_ioctl	=&gt; proc_ioctl

	xxx		=&gt; proc_xxx

	delete ".owner = THIS_MODULE" line

Variants of proc_create{,_data} that directly take a seq_file show
callback and drastically reduces the boilerplate code in the callers.

All trivial callers converted over.

<title>ia64: Convert timers to use timer_setup()</title>

In preparation for unconditionally passing the struct timer_list pointer to
all timer callbacks, switch to using the new timer_setup() and from_timer()
to pass the timer pointer explicitly.

One less trivial change was removing the repeated casting for callers
of bte_error_handler() by fixing its function declaration and adding a
small wrapper for the timer callback instead.

<title>ia64/salinfo: Replace racy task affinity logic</title>

Some of the file operations in /proc/sal require to run code on the
requested cpu. This is achieved by temporarily setting the affinity of the
calling user space thread to the requested CPU and reset it to the original
affinity afterwards.

That's racy vs. CPU hotplug and concurrent affinity settings for that
thread resulting in code executing on the wrong CPU and overwriting the
new affinity setting.

Replace it by using work_on_cpu_safe() which guarantees to run the code on
the requested CPU or to fail in case the CPU is offline.

The only purpose of down_try_lock() followed by up() seems to be to wake
up a possible reader. This patch replaces it with a wake-queue. There is
no locking around cpumask_empty() and the test is re-done in case there
was no hit.
With wait_event_interruptible_lock_irq(,&amp;data_saved_lock) we would probably
be able to get rid of the `retry` label. However we still can return CPU
X which is valid now but later (after the lock dropped) the event may
have been removed because the CPU went offline.

<title>ia64, salinfo: Fix hotplug callback registration</title>
<updated>2014-03-20T12:43:40Z</updated>
<author>

<id>urn:sha1:eff722b06bdd6de326894ea2353ec0eda3e5ed34</id>
<content type='text'>
Subsystems that want to register CPU hotplug callbacks, as well as perform
initialization for the CPUs that are already online, often do it as shown
below:

	get_online_cpus();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

	register_cpu_notifier(&amp;foobar_cpu_notifier);

	put_online_cpus();

This is wrong, since it is prone to ABBA deadlocks involving the
cpu_add_remove_lock and the cpu_hotplug.lock (when running concurrently
with CPU hotplug operations).

Instead, the correct and race-free way of performing the callback
registration is:

	cpu_notifier_register_begin();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

	/* Note the use of the double underscored version of the API */
	__register_cpu_notifier(&amp;foobar_cpu_notifier);

	cpu_notifier_register_done();

Fix the salinfo code in ia64 by using this latter form of callback
registration.
