commit 8678591b47469fe16357234efef9b260317b8be4 upstream.

Commit 3e86e4d74c04 ("kbuild: keep .modinfo section in
vmlinux.unstripped") added .modinfo to ELF_DETAILS while removing it
from COMMON_DISCARDS, as it was needed in vmlinux.unstripped and
ELF_DETAILS was present in all architecture specific vmlinux linker
scripts. While this shuffle is fine for vmlinux, ELF_DETAILS and
COMMON_DISCARDS may be used by other linker scripts, such as the s390
and x86 compressed boot images, which may not expect to have a .modinfo
section. In certain circumstances, this could result in a bootloader
failing to load the compressed kernel [1].

Commit ddc6cbef3ef1 ("s390/boot/vmlinux.lds.S: Ensure bzImage ends with
SecureBoot trailer") recently addressed this for the s390 bzImage but
the same bug remains for arm, parisc, and x86. The presence of .modinfo
in the x86 bzImage was the root cause of the issue worked around with
commit d50f21091358 ("kbuild: align modinfo section for Secureboot
Authenticode EDK2 compat"). misc.c in arch/x86/boot/compressed includes
lib/decompress_unzstd.c, which in turn includes lib/xxhash.c and its
MODULE_LICENSE / MODULE_DESCRIPTION macros due to the STATIC definition.

Split .modinfo out from ELF_DETAILS into its own macro and handle it in
all vmlinux linker scripts. Discard .modinfo in the places where it was
previously being discarded from being in COMMON_DISCARDS, as it has
never been necessary in those uses.

ARM: 9439/1: arm32: simplify ARM_MMU_KEEP usage

All current users need to add a KEEP() around the argument so the value is
actually kept, which doesn't feel very natural and is prone to upcoming bugs as
the name suggests that this macro alone already keeps things. Move that directly
into the definition.

ARM: 9404/1: arm32: enable HAVE_LD_DEAD_CODE_DATA_ELIMINATION

The current arm32 architecture does not yet support the
HAVE_LD_DEAD_CODE_DATA_ELIMINATION feature. arm32 is widely used in
embedded scenarios, and enabling this feature would be beneficial for
reducing the size of the kernel image.

In order to make this work, we keep the necessary tables by annotating
them with KEEP, also it requires further changes to linker script to KEEP
some tables and wildcard compiler generated sections into the right place.
When using ld.lld for linking, KEEP is not recognized within the OVERLAY
command, and Ard proposed a concise method to solve this problem.

It boots normally with defconfig, vexpress_defconfig and tinyconfig.

The size comparison of zImage is as follows:
defconfig vexpress_defconfig tinyconfig
5137712 5138024 424192 no dce
5032560 4997824 298384 dce
2.0% 2.7% 29.7% shrink

When using smaller config file, there is a significant reduction in the
size of the zImage.

We also tested this patch on a commercially available single-board
computer, and the comparison is as follows:
a15eb_config
2161384 no dce
2092240 dce
3.2% shrink

The zImage size has been reduced by approximately 3.2%, which is 70KB on
2.1M.

ARM: mm: Make virt_to_pfn() a static inline

Making virt_to_pfn() a static inline taking a strongly typed
(const void *) makes the contract of a passing a pointer of that
type to the function explicit and exposes any misuse of the
macro virt_to_pfn() acting polymorphic and accepting many types
such as (void *), (unitptr_t) or (unsigned long) as arguments
without warnings.

Doing this is a bit intrusive: virt_to_pfn() requires
PHYS_PFN_OFFSET and PAGE_SHIFT to be defined, and this is defined in
<asm/page.h>, so this must be included *before* <asm/memory.h>.

The use of macros were obscuring the unclear inclusion order here,
as the macros would eventually be resolved, but a static inline
like this cannot be compiled with unresolved macros.

The naive solution to include <asm/page.h> at the top of
<asm/memory.h> does not work, because <asm/memory.h> sometimes
includes <asm/page.h> at the end of itself, which would create a
confusing inclusion loop. So instead, take the approach to always
unconditionally include <asm/page.h> at the end of <asm/memory.h>

arch/arm uses <asm/memory.h> explicitly in a lot of places,
however it turns out that if we just unconditionally include
<asm/memory.h> into <asm/page.h> and switch all inclusions of
<asm/memory.h> to <asm/page.h> instead, we enforce the right
order and <asm/memory.h> will always have access to the
definitions.

Put an inclusion guard in place making it impossible to include
<asm/memory.h> explicitly.

A lot of randconfig builds end up not selecting any machine type at
all. This is generally fine for the purpose of compile testing, but
of course it means that the kernel is not usable on actual hardware,
and it causes a warning about this fact.

As most of the build bots now force-enable CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST for
randconfig builds, use that as a guard to control whether we warn
on this type of broken configuration.

We could do the same for the missing-cpu-type warning, but those
configurations fail to build much earlier.

In randconfig builds, we sometimes come across this warning:

arm-linux-gnueabi-ld: XIP start address may cause MPU programming issues

While this is helpful for actual systems to figure out why it
fails, the warning does not provide any benefit for build testing,
so guard it in a check for CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST, which is usually
set on randconfig builds.

When frame pointers are used instead of the ARM unwinder,
and the kernel is built using clang with an external assembler
and CONFIG_XIP_KERNEL, every file produces two warnings
like:

arm-linux-gnueabi-ld: warning: orphan section `.ARM.extab' from `net/mac802154/util.o' being placed in section `.ARM.extab'
arm-linux-gnueabi-ld: warning: orphan section `.ARM.exidx' from `net/mac802154/util.o' being placed in section `.ARM.exidx'

The same fix was already merged for the normal (non-XIP)

linker script, with a longer description.
